Tragedy in Jerusalem: Avreich killed after being hit by a van that drove into a crowd

Tonight (Sunday) at Hadassah Har Hatzofim, an avreich who was fatally injured earlier during demonstrations on Hachoma Hashlishit Street in Jerusalem was declared dead. The avreich was hit by a pickup truck driver who fled the scene. He was later located in a search conducted by police and arrested for questioning.

The hospital said: “A 47-year-old man who was fatally injured by a shuttle vehicle in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem was evacuated by MDA to the trauma room of the hospital’s emergency medical center. His injuries were extremely severe and we were forced to declare his death. ”

Preliminary investigations showed that a Palestinian driver had been stoned by youths and in response, he ran over one of those present at the scene. It was initially reported that the driver works as a shuttle contractor at the Herzog Medical Center, but it has since become clear that neither the driver nor the vehicle is employed by the Herzog Hospital shuttle contractor or the Herzog Medical Center.

Apparently, he served as a contractor for transportation to Herzog Hospital for only a few days in September 2020 and left, apparently, due to non-compliance. About two weeks ago, after countless pleas and phone calls, he returned the hospital sign to the offices of the company where he was employed. It is assumed that he duplicated, ostensibly, another sign which had been on his vehicle at the time of the incident.

MDA reported that “At 19:51, a report was received at the MDA hotline in the Jerusalem area about a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle on Hachoma Hashlishit Street in Jerusalem. MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment and transported a 30-year-old man in critical condition with an abdominal injury to Hadassah Hospital while performing CPR.”

MDA paramedic Eli Raymond and MDA paramedic Shalom Galil said: “When we arrived at the scene, he was lying on the sidewalk near the front of the commercial vehicle, unconscious and suffering from a severe upper-body injury. “We attempted to resuscitate him in a mobile intensive care unit and evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while continuing to perform resuscitation efforts.”

The police said: “A report was recently received about a man who was hit by a vehicle on Hachoma Hashlishit Street in Jerusalem. Police forces attended the scene and began investigating the circumstances of the case. The wounded man was evacuated for medical care. The driver of the vehicle escaped from the scene and was arrested for questioning.”
