During an enforcement operation carried out yesterday evening (Thursday) in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem, the police rioted and caused a great commotion in the quiet neighborhood. Several extremists reportedly threw garbage bags at police officers.
According to the police, they arrived in the neighborhood to close synagogues that remained open – in violation of the restrictions on closure. So far, ten residents of Meah Shearim have been arrested.
Meanwhile, a disturbing video has been circulated on social media in which a police officer is seen kicking a young child during enforcement, which is in grave violation of the law. The Israeli police said in response to the incident, “Following the activity of the police forces in enforcing the corona regulations, stones and objects were thrown at them. As a result, two policemen were hit by stones.
The Israel Police also said that, “We will act resolutely against rioters who choose to violate public order and harm police officers who carry out a national enforcement mission in order to curb the spread of the corona virus.” The police also updated that “so far, 10 suspects have been detained and arrested for disorderly conduct, throwing stones and refusing to identify themselves.”
