Last night, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio issued an emergency order due to the snowstorm that had begun. Residents were instructed to stay indoors during the storm – with non-essential travel being banned starting at 6 a.m. Monday. “This is a very dangerous storm,” the mayor said.
“New Yorkers need to stay home, keep the roads clear of emergency vehicles and let the snow cover work to keep us safe,” de Blasio said in a statement.
“Make no mistake: this storm will bring heavy snow and it will make driving on the road dangerous in all neighborhoods of the city.” Following the storm – nicknamed ‘Orlena’, a large amount of snow is expected to fall, and according to forecasts, the snow will reach a height of between 18 and 24 cm.
The peak time of snowfall is expected to be mid-morning Monday through evening. It is also warned in the forecasts that the mixture of heavy snow and stormy winds could lead to snowstorm conditions.
