Deputy Health Minister: “If there is no change in numbers, we may lengthen the lockdown”

Deputy Health Minister Yoav Kish said today (Sunday): “If we do not see a significant drop in numbers, we will have to stay in lockdown for another week.  We must decide what is right in terms of health.  It may still get worse.”

“It is important to understand what the problem is. The virus, in the face of the British mutation, is now much more difficult.  This mutation is more contagious, not more dangerous, but spreading a lot more.  We know that the British mutation is already in significant numbers in Israel. That’s why I think it is so difficult to contain.”

On the manpower in the hospitals: “We have utilised all the available manpower. I can tell you that the battle now over the budget for the hospitals is completely unnecessary.  It’s a pity that today they are dealing with private hospitals in battles over budgets.”

“Let’s leave Israel for a moment and see what is happening in Europe and the United States. There are hospitals in the Western world that say ‘Do not bring us ambulances with Corona patients’. There is a huge burden on health systems all over the world and this means that the treatment of patients has really been harmed. We are trying to avoid this as much as possible. That’s why we’re in lockdown. It’s not for nothing. The public needs to understand this. There are high case numbers, there are pressures, there is very high morbidity in the hospitals. ”
