MK Bezalel Smutrich, head of the National Unity party, announced tonight (Monday) that he was splitting from Naftali Bennett’s Yemina list and running separately in the Knesset elections; he announced during an interview with News 12.
The announcement comes after negotiations between Bennet and Smutrich over another joint run fell through after they could not agree on their respective representatives’ order on the list.
“Bennett has brought [the political representation of] the Religious Zionism to the lowest place it has ever been,” Smutrich said on Saturday. “I am the only national religious party,” he proclaimed.
Yemina responded to the news with an official statement accusing Smutrich of breaking up the far-right vote: “Smutrich chose to split the right tonight. We wish him success along the way.”
