Blue and White chairman clarifies: “This is not a war – there is no reason to postpone the election”

Defense Minister Benny Gantz says this morning (Thursday) that there is no reason to postpone the upcoming elections due to be held in Nissan. According to him, this is not a war and the coronavirus is a scenario that the State of Israel knows how to deal with.

In an interview given by the Minister of Defense to Reshet Beit, he said that “this is not a war in which missiles are fired, this is a scenario that we know how to deal with.” On the possibility of giving his place to another leader who will lead Blue and White, Gantz said he intends to run to the end, although he is interested in making connections with other parties.

Last night, Deputy Health Minister MK Yoav Kish addressed the issue of extending the lockdown and the increasing morbidity rate.

In an interview given last night by the Deputy Health Minister to 103FM, he was asked about the effect of the virus on the upcoming elections and said that “I do not know how elections can be made in such a situation.” MK Hauser replied that such a move would require a majority of eighty votes in the Knesset.

“When we are in quarantine we expect to see a decrease in numbers, but it hasn’t yet happened. It means that we have a much more contagious variant now” .

Regarding the election, Kish said, “I am very worried, and if there is high morbidity and high case numbers, and as we approach the election that is still the case, I do not know how we can do it.  A week or two before the election, there will be a situation assessment discussion with the professionals, who will give their recommendation to the Central Election Commission. ”
