Trump’s lawyer raised eyebrows as he makes a blessing before drinking

David Schoen, an orthodox Jew who former President Donald Trump hired to defend him in his second impeachment trial, had made headlines yet again after initially bringing attention to his faith when he wrote a letter to the senate asking to accommodate his Shabbes observance.

Yesterday, as the eyes of the nation were glued to the TV screens to watch the opening of the procedures, many noticed Schoen putting his hand on his hand as he took a sip from a water bottle; the hand gesture perplexed many viewers who took to social media to raise speculations about it.

The mystery was solved quickly by many observant Jews who explained that Schoen was covering his head to recite the mandatory blessing before drinking water.

Many speculated if this wasn’t a sophisticated ploy by Schoen to divert attention from the matter at hand – the incitement to storm the capitol by the former president.

Schoen usually wears a Kippah, but he didn’t wear it as he addressed the senate. “I just wasn’t sure if it was appropriate, frankly,” Schoen said after the hearing to a CNN reporter who asked him why he did not wear a kippah. “I didn’t want to offend anyone…It’s just an awkward thing, and people stare at it.”
