Netanyahu lauds vaccination roll-out success with two millionth inoculation milestone

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke today (Tuesday) at a makeshift news conference marking the two millionth Israeli citizen to receive the Covid-19 immunization, maintaining Israel’s global leadership in immunization rate per capita.

“The good news is that the public is cooperating, and it must continue. We are now starting to vaccinate from the age of 50,” Netanyahu said.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein clarified that there is no shortage of vaccine doses in Israel. “We are in a wave of illness that worries us greatly; in a few days, we will be able to assess the efficacy of the current lockdown,” the health minister added.

Starting tomorrow, mass vaccinations begin for those aged 50 and over.

Prof. Eran Segal, who heads the team of Covid-19 researchers at the Weizmann Institute, said that assuming the current strict closure lasts three weeks – the peak of serious cases is still ahead of us and will be recorded in about a week.

According to his team’s findings, which was presented to the designated Corona Cabinet, although the incidence of the virus will continue, the rate of vaccination is expected to lead to a gradual decrease in the serious illness, and no further lockdown will be necessary.
