A week into lockdown and early labor statistics in Israel indicate devastating job losses across all sectors of the Israeli economy.
The Employment Service reports this morning (Thursday) that in the last day 5,717 new unemployment cases were filed, while since the beginning of the lockdown, a total of 123,348 new unemployment cases were filed.
It should be noted that 102,039 of them were furloughed, while 21,309 of them were terminated or resigned.
A significant number of the new cases are in the education sector. Before the current lockdown this sector amounted to only 5.1% of all job losses. Currently, there are 31,947 unemployment cases in the education sector, 28,891 of whom were registered since the lockdown began.
For 23% of the 123,348 registered as unemployed since the start of the lockdown, this is the first time they have filed for unemployment since the outbreak of the crisis, for 28% of the registrants it was the second time and for 49% it was the third time registered as unemployed since the crisis broke out.
